Posting of Flags

RESOLUTION

May 22, 2024

Whereas and because we are entering the summer months, and
Whereas and because the Board of the Meadows HOA is supportive of community values,

Let it be resolved on this day that as a board, we encourage homeowners to fly the American Flag.

Flag size should be 3'x5' because it is the most popular size flag for residential display. This size is appropriate for display with a pole and mounting bracket on your home. The mounting bracket should be mounted on wooden posts at the entrance of each home mounted perpendicular to the house, away from the door. As a sign of respect, if there is no light source for the flag, flags should be taken down each night. The security lights around the Meadows would provide adequate light to honor the Flag and keep it lit up at night. We will leave the judgment call on lighted Flags to each homeowner.

We hope that this action will bring a greater sense of community and patriotism to the Meadows. There is no requirement that everyone or anyone fly the Flag, merely a resolution of support.

Resolved unanimously by the board

The Short Story

The Meadows HOA Board voted unanimously to encourage neighbors to fly the American flag during summer months to promote community spirit and patriotism.
Important Note: This is not a requirement. Nobody is being forced to fly a flag; the board is simply showing its support for those who want to.

The Guidelines (If You Choose to Fly a Flag)

If you do decide to put up a flag, there are a few specific suggestions to keep things looking uniform and respectful:

  • Size: Flags should be a standard 3-foot by 5-foot flag, which fits best on residential mounting brackets.

  • Placement: The flag bracket should be mounted on a wooden post near your front entrance, facing straight out (perpendicular) away from your door.

  • Nighttime Lighting: Traditional flag etiquette says flags should be taken down at night if they aren't lit up. However, the board notes that the neighborhood's existing security lights and front porch lights are bright enough to provide adequate lighting. Ultimately, the decision to take the flag down or leave it up at night entirely up to the homeowner's best judgment.
